Cyber Czech 2016

Three representatives from the Directorate for Security of Classified Information participated in the exercise technical cyber security entitled as “Cyber Security Simulation,” which was held in the period from February 28 to March 1, 2017 in Brno, Czech Republic, at the Masaryk University. The event was organized by the European Commission with the support of the TAIEX instrument, in cooperation with the National Security Authority (NSA) of the Czech Republic. Besides participants from Macedonia, there were representatives from other Balkan countries: Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Albania. The exercise was held on a cyber polygon at the Institute of Informatics which is an integral part of Masaryk University in Brno. This event was conducted in the form of a simulation in a closed especially modified technical environment.
The exercise was based on a scenario which reflects incidents and lessons from the real world. Participants had the opportunity to prepare a defense computer networks from cyber-attacks. The technical skills of the participants were tested with an emphasis on the sharing of information between the participants and other entities participating in the exercise. The aim of this exercise was to strengthen technical skills of participants in defending computer networks against cyber-attacks and to build up capacities on defending critical information infrastructure. Divided into small teams, the participants were tasked to face more sophisticated incidents and events. The purpose of this exercise was not only to respond to attacks and technical problems, but also to deal with the media and their impact, i.e. the work under pressure which was a part of the script according to which the exercise was conducted.
